Sad and Terrifying
In just a few short weeks Maximutt’s world has fallen apart and there is little left of what the dog once knew and loved. His family is gone and shambling corpses roam the streets, consuming everything in their wake, including hope.
Trapped inside the house he once called a home, it will soon become a coffin if he does not escape. Despite this, he only wishes to hear the voices of family, of his children, once again, knowing when he does he will stop at nothing to keep them safe.
Despite the horrors he faces, Maximutt will prove there is still love and valor in this world so pure, it hurts.
Maximutt drags us kicking and screaming back into the world of DISEASE, first established in M.F. Wahl’s novel. It is a dark and deadly place where many meet a death not nearly as fast as they wish it could be. Here, not even the strong survive.
Maximutt by M.F. Wahl is the heart wrenching and terrifying companion novella to the novel Disease. Set early in the zombie apocalypse of Disease, this is the tale of one family’s horrifying struggle to survive told from the perspective of Maximutt.
Let me be clear though, that this is a perspective piece, not first person.
Wahl’s subtle insertion of the graphic into a moment of emotion or tension never fails to shock me. She uses gore artistically to wrench the reader in a new direction.
I read this book in one evening. I couldn’t not finish it once I started. The characterization, action, and build up was too compelling. The story flows like a rollercoaster ride and it left me emotionally spent.
Don’t miss this!
