Content Review

100 Word Horrors is an anthology of drabbles compiled by Kevin Kennedy.

“What’s a drabble?”

“A drabble is a story of exactly one hundred words, not including the title,” as stated in the anthology Forward.

For those of you who may be having difficulty quantifying that, please allow me to simplify.  Each story is less than one page long.  You literally get a new horror with each turn of the page.  It is an amazing experience!  Like eating a box of chocolates.  However, a few of these did make me regret that I was snacking while I read them.  I’m talking to you, Andrew Lennon.

The masterfully crafted horror drabbles herein, range from tragic to shocking to outright horrific.  The variety is an excellent touch by Kennedy, who artfully arranges them so that reading cover to cover, as I did, is like driving a mountain pass:  up, down, wind left, curve right, up again…

As a side note, I feel the clever and expertly executed cover to be a tad misleading if you think it reflects the content in a literal sense, so keep that in mind.  It is more figurative and symbolic.

I cannot recommend this darkly fun collective enough.  The list of contributing writers is truly impressive and the stories are all disturbing works of literary art.  I officially deem it shelf worthy!  A true asset to any library.

In short, this is one of the most fantastic things I have ever read!
